Clean Air in Cricklewood Broadway

Over the last 12 months we have been monitoring – by means of real time air pollution sensing –  any improvement in localised air quality as a result of pedestrianisation of the end of Oaklands Road in Brent, London, where it meets Cricklewood Broadway. Click on the link to see the results

CTT SAYS

CTT remains committed to making Cricklewood a vibrant and pleasant place to live but consider that the proposed development will not achieve this goal.  In summary, we object to this proposed development plan because it would make Cricklewood into a high-rise annex of the Brent Cross Regeneration and deprive Cricklewood of its identity as a historic town centre location. We would welcome discussions with the developers to work up a design that would be beneficial for both parties. Read More

Press Release Bridge Project

Welcome to Cricklewood

A significant boost to Cricklewood in these difficult times is the unveiling of a sign painted on the railway bridge outside the station to offer a welcoming entrance to the town announcing Cricklewood as a place in its own right.

This is the second project delivered by NorthWestTWO Residents’ Association thanks to funding from the GTR Passenger Benefit Fund. Just before lockdown a mural commemorating the early days of civil aviation when you could fly from Cricklewood to Paris in a converted WW1 bomber was launched at Cricklewood Station.

A further project will be a series of Panels located in the Passenger Waiting area recognising the interesting industrial history of Cricklewood including the aeronautics, railways, the range of factories and the importance of Clitterhouse Farm, home to a well known suffragette, and the Crown Public House.

NorthWestTwo Residents’ Association Secretary Marie Hancock said: “The concerted effort catalysed through the GTR Passenger Benefit Fund has been welcomed locally in a place trisected by three local authorities. The new signage is a marker for the Station and Town Centre and puts Cricklewood on the map”.

The bridge was where well-known local business advertised – particularly Smiths Industries in the 60s.

The project was kindly funded by GTR Passenger Benefit Fund and delivered by NorthWestTWO RA in partnership with Network Rail, Wood Street Walls, Tate Technical, Barnet Council, Conway Aecom, B&Q and Dutch and Dutch.

CRICKLEWOOD ON THE MAP

The main signpost – a Monolith –  is on Cricklewood Lane beside the Green – our Asset of Community Value.

It was back in February 2016 that the Town Team made the formal application to TfL and in the August Barnet Council agreed to take the lead – it’s a requirement for these projects to have the Council as the lead.  When the Town Team was initially organising the Garden at the entrance to the Station, members were continually asked for directions to the Broadway or other landmarks.  We used the Partnership we had developed with Govia trains as a means of convincing TfL of the need to link the station to the town of Cricklewood.  The footfall in 2015 was almost 1.5 million through the station.

It has been a long process, but Cricklewood is at last on the London map.  Our thanks to Barnet Council for ensuring that these signposts are now in place.

This is the Fingerpost on Cricklewood Broadway near the Crown and a Midlith will be positioned outside of
Cricklewood Station when the roadworks are complete.
