The NorthWestTWO Residents' Association AGM and Pub Quiz went down a storm on Wednesday 1st May in The Crown.
We are a young organisation, and still finding our feet. Previous AGMs have tended to be small, quiet affairs, but this was better attended. Some of the committee members gave short speeches about their roles within the Association, and there was also opportunity for other local groups to talk about their work, including the NW2 Network, Creative Cricklewood and Cricklewood Improvement Project, and for people with ideas for fundraising to present those too. We announced our accounts, voted in the committee, and then moved on to the quiz.
Quizmistress Majella was sparkling, and gave us a testing time. Did you know, for example, that the hippopotamus produces pink milk, or that the Macintosh computers were named after a type of apple? There were around 10 teams. The winning team, with 41.75 out of 60, were The Odd Couples, and got a round of drinks, courtesy of The Crown. The raffle was a typical raucous affair, and the many lovely prizes included two huge fruit baskets, vouchers for Urban Woot courses, vouchers for a free meals, several bottles of wine including a bottle of House of Commons whiskey, a large Cadbury gift box and jewellery.
All together we raised £200, which will contribute to flowering up the neighbourhood with hanging baskets, tree pit planting as well as planting flowers around the community notice boards in Temple Road.
We would like to thank The Crown for being generous hosts and the Wright Family Fruit and Veg Stall, The Art of Pizza, Paul Edgeworth and Grove Roofing for their generous donations supporting our event.
You don't have to wait for the AGM to get involved. You don't have to be a committee member to help. We would really like to hold an annual community event. In 2009 we organised the Rainbow Day which was great fun but requires a lot of helpers. This year Marco and Galya organised the fantastic Olive Road Jubilee Street Party and we were delighted to help and support the event and it was wonderful that so many residents were involved.
